Wise-up on Wine reflects our belief that our best customer is a wine-knowledgeable customer. By “wine-knowledgeable” we do not mean “connoisseur” — connoisseurship all too often carries the connotation of one-upmanship.

Our mission is to demystify wine, by providing information that can be readily understood, sharing with you our passion, knowledge, preferences and prejudices; and above all, offering opportunities for you to taste a wide variety of wines.

The True Measure of Wine is neither Price nor someone’s Numeric Rating, but what Pleases Your Palate and Your Pocket. Comparative tasting, and knowing how to taste, liberates the wine-lover and the wine-curious from the tyranny of reviews, ratings and advertising propaganda and from the gamble of picking wine by divining labels.

Most of the “shelf talkers” in the store are written by us, based on our personal impressions of the wine. We never quote Robert Parker or Wine Spectator ratings and comments.

We will take the time to answer your questions, in person or by email, and if we do not have the answer we will tell you so and we will make every effort to get you an accurate answer.
